PadelSense records your padel match on an iPhone and analyses it: it finds the court, follows where each player moves, works out when the rallies were and cuts a highlight reel. This page explains what it collects, where it is kept, for how long, and how to delete it.

  • The video records everyone on the court, not only you. Please tell the people you play with.
  • There is no face recognition. Players are told apart by clothes and movement, within one match only.
  • A match is seen only by its players, and nobody sees anything of it until they have said which player they are.
  • When the last player deletes a match, its video, sound and everything that could identify a person are deleted. Anonymous game statistics (rally times, ball and player paths not linked to anyone) may be kept to improve the analysis.
  • We do not sell data and there is no advertising.

Who is responsible

PadelSense is made by Ayrat Mardanov, a self-employed developer (autónomo) in Spain. He decides how the data described here is used: in data protection terms, he is the controller. In this policy, “we” means him. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect

Your account

You sign in with Google or with Apple. We keep an account identifier, your display name and, with Google, the address of your Google profile photo. Apple gives us your name only once, at your first sign-in, and no photo. We do not store your email address and we never see your password. An Apple account and a Google account are two separate PadelSense accounts and cannot be joined.

The recording

While you play, the app records video and sound of the whole court and uploads it in pieces of a few minutes. Everyone on court is in it, and so may be people passing by or playing on the next court. Each piece is deleted from your phone once it has uploaded.

What the analysis makes from it

Location

When you start a match the app asks for your location once. That single reading is stored with the match and sent to Google Places to find the club you are at, so the match can be named after it. The app does not track your location at any other time. If you refuse, the match simply has no club name.

Phone diagnostics during a recording

While it records, the app sends technical readings so we can keep long recordings from overheating or failing: phone model and iOS version, how hot the phone is, battery level and low power mode, network type, camera and microphone settings, how much processor the app uses, and upload failures. They are linked to your account and the match. They contain no picture and no sound.

How the app is used

Each time you open the app while signed in, we record that you opened it: the time our server received it, whether the app was started or brought back from the background, the app version and build, the platform (iOS or Android) and your phone's language. No phone model, IP address or location is stored with it. When you delete a match, we record the day, how many days after the recording it was, whether you recorded or joined the match, and whether yours was the last copy — with no match and no account attached. We use both only to understand whether and how people use PadelSense.

Crash reports

When the app or our servers hit an error, a report goes to Sentry so we can fix it. It holds what broke and where in the code, the phone model and system version, and your account identifier (so repeated failures are recognised as one person's). It carries no name, no email, no video and no sound.

Server logs

Our server keeps a log of the requests it receives, so we can run it and find what went wrong: when each request came, which address in our service it asked for (that can include your account or match identifier), the answer, and the IP address it came from. Google Cloud deletes these logs automatically after 30 days.

How players are told apart

There is no face recognition anywhere in PadelSense. A face is never turned into a template, never compared with another face and never stored on its own.

Who can see a match

European data protection law (the GDPR) requires a legal reason for each use of personal data. Ours are:

To provide the service you asked for (contract)
Your account, recording and analysing your match, showing it to the players you invite, and deleting it when you ask.
Our legitimate interests
Keeping the app working and fixing it (phone diagnostics, crash reports, server logs); understanding whether and how the app is used (app opens and match deletions, see What we collect); checking and improving rally detection (the internal labelling tool, the anonymous archive); and recording the people on court who do not use PadelSense, without whom a match cannot be recorded. We have weighed these against your interests: they use no more data than they need, no decision about you is taken from them, and you can object (see Your rights).
Your consent
Location. You give it in the iOS permission prompt and can withdraw it at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services; the match then simply has no club name.

We make no automated decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects, and we build no advertising profiles.

Where data is stored and processed

Google Cloud (Frankfurt and the Netherlands)
Our server that the app talks to and its request logs, and the analysis of recordings.
Backblaze B2 (EU data centre)
Video, sound, player photos, highlight reels, analysis files and the anonymous archive (see Deleting a match).
Supabase (Frankfurt)
The database: accounts (name and photo address), match records, invites, phone diagnostics, app opens and match deletions.
A separate processing server in the United States (California)
Does part of the work of finding people and extracting the sound from recording pieces. For each piece it gets a link that works for 15 minutes, processes the piece in a temporary folder that is deleted afterwards, and sends the result back. It has no access to our storage or database beyond that one piece.
Google and Apple
Sign-in. Google Places receives the location reading described above.
Sentry (EU data centre, Germany)
Crash reports.

Google, Backblaze, Supabase and Sentry are US companies. We use their EU data centres, and for any access from outside the EU their data processing terms include the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The exception is the processing server in California: it runs on a machine lent to us by a private individual, and there is currently no data processing agreement with its owner. The pieces of recordings sent there (a few minutes of video and sound each) leave the EU without those safeguards.

Videos and photos in the app are shown through links that expire after 15 minutes. We do not sell your data and do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

How long it is kept

Video, sound and everything made from a match
Until every player has deleted the match, or it is deleted along with an account (see Deleting your account). There is currently no automatic time limit.
Player photos
Deleted once every player has said who they are. Yours is also deleted when you delete your account, in every match that stays with other players.
Recording pieces on your phone
Deleted as each one finishes uploading.
Invite links
7 days, or until cancelled. We keep only a fingerprint of each link, not the link itself.
Your profile
Until you delete your account.
Location
Kept with the match and deleted with it. Club names and addresses are kept in a shared list of venues.
Phone diagnostics
Deleted with the match, once every player has deleted it, and when you delete your account. They contain no picture and no sound.
Processing records (which pieces of a recording have been analysed)
Deleted with the match.
App opens
13 months, or until you delete your account.
Match deletions
13 months. They are not linked to a match or a person.
Crash reports
Deleted by Sentry automatically after 90 days at most.
Server logs
Deleted by Google Cloud automatically after 30 days.
Anonymous archive
No set limit. It cannot be linked back to a match or a person.

Deleting a match

Open the match and choose Delete match in its menu. It disappears from your history. The other players keep it, because it is their match too.

When the last player deletes it, the video, the sound and everything from which people could be recognised are deleted completely. Anonymous game statistics may be kept and used to improve our algorithms. In detail:

If the match is still being analysed, the app asks you to try again a little later.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete account.

Two things are not deleted the moment you delete your account; they expire on their own: server logs, with your IP address, after 30 days, and crash reports, with your account identifier, after 90 days at most.

If you can no longer use the app, email us (below) and we will delete your account for you.

If you were recorded but do not use PadelSense

Someone may have recorded a match you played in, or you may have been filmed passing by or on the next court. That recording is kept and deleted as described above, and only the players of that match who use the app can see it. You have the same rights as a user: write to us, say roughly when and where it was, and we will look for the match and act on your request, including deletion.

Your rights

You have the right to get a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its use, to receive the data you gave us in a portable format, to object to uses based on our legitimate interests (for example, to the developer reviewing a recording of your match), and to withdraw your consent at any time. Write to the address below; we answer within one month. You can also complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) or to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

PadelSense is not meant for anyone under 16. If you are under 16, please do not create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 16, we delete it.
